Pupil Premium
What is Pupil Premium?
Pupil premium is additional funding allocated to all schools in England to support disadvantaged pupils and to support schools to close the gap between them and their peers. This budget includes pupils who are currently entitled to free school meals, have been free school meals in the past six years (FSM ‘Ever 6’), children that are cared for or adopted from care and children whose parents are in the armed forces. It is entirely up to individual schools to decide how the money is spent.

Sports Premium Funding
Sport at BCJS
We recognise and value the importance of Physical Education (PE). We support pupils’ health, wellbeing and fitness by providing a high quality PE curriculum that inspires all children to lead healthy and active lifestyles, both now and in the future. Personal skills such as resilience, fairness and respect are promoted in lessons and pupils learn how to cope with both success and failure in competitive, individual and team-based physical activities within a supportive environment.
Sports Grant
The Sports Grant is additional government funding paid to schools to improve provision of Physical Education (PE) and sport in primary schools. The funding should be used to:
- support all children and young people to live healthy, active lives
- make participation in PE and school sport easier
- make sure all children can achieve and thrive through increased physical activity and sport, no matter their background or ability
- improve children’s health, wellbeing, personal development and academic attainment
- embed the foundations of positive and enjoyable participation in regular physical activity.
Schools must use the PE and sport premium funding to:
- build capacity and capability in the school, ensuring improvements to the quality of PE, sport and physical activity provision are sustainable and will benefit pupils joining the school in future
- develop or add to the PE, sport and physical activity that the school provides.
