Learning Remotely at Home

We hope that your child can be with us in school every day to access their learning. At Banstead Community Junior School, we believe that high attendance is clearly linked to high performance and therefore, being in school is a priority for all our learners. However, in exceptional circumstances such as long term illness, suspension or unforeseen emergency school closure, this may not always be possible. The following information should help you ensure that your child can access learning until they can return to their lessons at school.

If your child is unable to attend school but is well enough to learn, please follow the steps below:

  • Look at the Long Term Plans for your child’s year group found under the ‘Curriculum’ tab.
  • Look at the information found on the ‘useful website links’ including details for Accelerated Reader, Times Table Rockstars and Google Classroom as well as other helpful websites such as Oak Academy and BBC Bitesize. This is on the ‘Pupil Zone’ tab.
  • We use Google Classroom for remote learning at Banstead Juniors and all children can access their Google Classroom using their log in details found in their Reading Records/ Homework Diaries.

Work will not be set for pupils who are absent due to term time holidays.

Illness:  If a child is ill, no remote learning will be provided as the focus must be to rest and get better.

Long term / extended illness:  Where a child is absent for a sustained period of time due to an injury or significant illness, learning may be offered on a limited basis after discussion between the teacher and parent.

How can parents best support their children with remote learning?

  • Ensure your child is ready to learn before the start of the school day
  • Create a distraction free environment
  • Check on your child’s engagement with their learning
  • Keep in contact with the school
