In Year 5 we encourage children to become more independent learners, building on skills already developed in the Lower School. The children will have the opportunity to enjoy a wide variety of different topics across the curriculum. These include: The Tudors, Mexico, Space and exploring many books by Roald Dahl.
Some highlights of the year are: visiting Hampton Court, creating their own Forest of Doom book and film, pizza making at Pizza Express, a Mayan workshop and a visit to the local church to recreate a wedding service.
We aim to equip the Year 5 children with all the skills needed to achieve their full potential when they enter Year 6.
In History, Y5 are learning about the Tudors. We are so impressed with the Tudor Rose projects the children have completed. We now have two amazing displays in the school for everyone to enjoy.
In English lessons Y5 are learning about ‘Recounts’. As part of this topic they are looking at the features of newspaper reports.
Accelerated Reading books are available for the children to borrow in every class. The children are working towards targets for words read, achieving 100% in the quizzes and a year group points target. Keep reading Y5!
Y5 have been looking at different strategies in Maths lessons for multiplying by 10, 100 & 1000.
